Swindon Power Tom Ingram to BTCC Championship Title

Tom Ingram wins the 2022 BTCC drivers championship in the final race of the season at Brands Hatch, making it 3 drivers championships in a row for Swindon Powertrain engines. Entering the final weekend in 3rd position, 7 points off the lead, it was all to do for the Excelr8 driver in the Hyundai i30. A sensational lap in qualifying gave Tom the best possible start to the weekend, putting him on pole position for Race 1. Ingram went on to claim a lights to flag victories in the first 2 races, giving him a 11 point lead in the championship heading into the last race.

The top 10 cars were effected by the reverse grid draw, meaning Tom started in 10th position behind both his championship rivals. Ingram stayed within touching distance of his championship rivals throughout the race, crossing the line in 5th and winning the championship by 10 points.

The final race was won by Daniel Lloyd in the sister Hyundai, holding off the competition having been promoted to the front row in the reverse grid draw. This meant the Swindon powered Hyundai’s won all three heats across the weekend and took a total of 9 race wins throughout the season, more than any other team.

We look forward to working together with Excelr8 Racing and  Hyundai to retain the title in 2023.
