Electric Pagoda wins GQ Restomod of the year award

Swindon Powertrain were chosen as technical partner and supplier for the electrification of the Hemmels Electric Pagoda which won restomod of the year at the 2023 GQ car awards. The iconic classic was painstakingly restored by Hemmels, with Swindon Powertrain responsible for engineering and integration of the electric powertrain.

The conversion involved the integration of Swindon Powertains HPD electric drive unit (motor & transmission) paired with inverter for drive control. New, period sympathetic dials and drive controls were sourced, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems were replaced with items suitable for an electric vehicle. A bespoke 60kWh battery pack was designed and built and in-house. All new components were installed sympathetically to the original car before delivery of this demonstrator vehicle.

The finished electrification kit provides 190kW of electrical power to the rear wheels and is capable of travelling up to 200 miles between charges.
The judges for the Restomod of the Year award were impressed by the commitment to preserving the original essence of the car, while also introducing modern upgrades to enhance its performance and drivability.
